    Let the painting begin…

I did mention that almost the whole house is painted in a beige/yellow tone, right? Well, I probably didn’t mention the hospital green tone that is covering a few of the bedrooms. Alice’s room is one of them. I just thought her room was the first on our list, since didn’t require that much work and investment to look nice. My plan was to keep the same color scheme we had in her room in the old house, just because everybody was happy with the results. So stripe it is. This is the before… The striped wall – Lines were drawn every 20 cm, with a help of level. Lot…

How to break tiles – not on purpose

The first and only thing we did so far on our ensuite bathroom was removing the trim for some shower doors they previously had in there. The actual door is nowhere to be seen, so I found no reason to keep the trim hanging around. I started with the unscrew part, then some caulking removal to finally pull the trim out. It was going fine until I pulled the trim a little harder and a tile just came out with it… awww… fail! I could noticed that the tiles around the area are all sort of loose. I just can’t wait to see them all go. Meanwhile, we’ll have to…

    * Hey everybody, thanks for the sweet comments on here and Instagram… nice to hear from you! ** Second hey to William – Aqui vai um link para um ótimo texto postado pela Mirella do Mikix no Mundo, falando exatamente sobre a carta convite e o que deve/pode constar. DIY – Blackout blinds – the beginning

Alice’s bedroom and the whole house already have blinds. They probably date back to when the house was new, in 1998. We actually like the fact that we don’t have to spend money on blinds right now, since they are all custom fit (as usual), but they do look a bit dated, with their off white and brass colors.  But my point here that Alice’s room has, along with the blinds, a very useful blackout. Very useful yes, but NOT our style. First and easy fix, cutting the bottom part, leaving with a much cleaner look. Next step, in my intent to reuse them, is to actually replace the fabric…

Espiada na casa nova em Ottawa

It was about time I start sharing a few photos of our new home. Again, it’s new to us, but the house is actually 15 years old and haven’t seen that many updates since then. You’ll find here a pure 80’s style, with a lot of brass finishes, cream walls, green carpets, dark tiles (and some funky ones too), but also a lot of natural light, thanks to the great number of windows (I love natural light) and a open concept main floor, which is more a contemporary feature (and we love it too). The great thing is that the house seems to be in great condition and in time…

    New blog

Hi everybody!! Thanks for the previous post comments. Pat, I’m planning to talk about our neighborhood and Ottawa in general in a post soon. Stay tuned. And Lidiane, it’s going to take a while before I can share progress on the decor, but I hope to have some small updates on that soon. /// As you may have noticed, in the 7th blog anniversary (wow, that long!), I decided to spice things up and made some changes on this little blog of ours. First, the former New Home Canada became Like a New Home and I tell you the story behind it. We still live in Canada and don’t plan…
