Cancun – Mexico

Riu Cancun - Mexico

If you followed the social networks of the blog and my staff, you must have seen that we fled the late Canadian autumn to get a warm, a vitamin D and find part of the family in a new place for all of us, in Cancun, Mexico.

I’ve always heard of the region and it’s always been on my list of places to know and I can now say that it did not disappoint. Although, our routine and activities were well focused on the family, the children and we do not know the hype and nightlife that are famous of Cancun.
So in this post I will tell you a little of our experience in an all-inclusive type resort with the kids and of course, lots of photos.

Access

We chose to leave Montreal this time, especially to close the dates with the people coming from Brazil, so we had to drive there on the way back and forth (2h from Ottawa). Four from there and four from here, we ended up arriving almost at the same time at Cancun airport. Our flight was direct Montreal/Cancun and lasted around 4 and a half hours on the way and 3h40m on the return. Brazil’s family came to Panama.
You can buy the airport/resort transfer already in the hotel package and airfare, but in our case we choose to hire with a separate company. It all worked out, they were waiting for us when we arrived, with 2 car seats for the girls and the journey lasted about 25 minutes to the resort door and they caught us on the day of saying until soon to paradise.

CHOICE OF RESORT/HOTEL

We chose one of the hotels in the RIU chain, more specifically Riu Cancun. The chain has 2 other hotels in the hotelarea, part narrow by the sea, with a plethora of hotels and resorts to choose from. We researched and read many reviews and the chosen was this, due to the facilities, beach, adaptation for families with children and convenience.
The hotel was not full of families only, I think it was more of a group of friends, longtime couples and honeymooncouples. Although diversity is great, we have not seen problems or improper mess.

Accommodations

Due to the architecture of the building, almost all rooms have sea views. Fantastic that, I loved it! Our room was even spacious, but super minimalist, so to speak. I had two small double beds together. Bathroom also spacious.
The interesting thing is that the minibar comes stuffed with water, soda and beer and is replenished every two days, thus all inclusive. There are also four bottles of spirits, drink style until dropped, in the room (one of them was tequila).

ALL-INCLUSIVE

The Riu Cancun Hotel offers a super well complete buffet, I find it difficult for someone to be without having to eat with so many options. Almost every day the same things were served with some variations, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but as there were so many options, you could eat something different every time. Had Mexican night and the buffet was special, with some typical extra dishes (I say extra, because every lunch and dinner had the Mexican food counter very complete). There are also themed restaurants, if I’m not mistaken 4, where you can dine with a more specific flavor (Italian, meats, Japanese and bistro).
One of the only downsides, I did not find the desserts so good, despite the various options (maybe a good one for those who stay in bikinis all day these days right)
Guests can eat almost every day and drinks such as juices, water, beer (from The Equis), cocktails and spirits are included. Negative points: the beer usually warmed up when taken on the beach and champagne was not included (awnn – hehe).

Climate

We had seen, closer to the arrival date, that it would rain during the days we were there, but luckily we caught most sunny days and some with clouds that eventually dissipated throughout the morning. Super good.
The temperature was also higher than we expected, averaging 30 degrees every day.
Negative point: We find it extremely humid (I don’t know if it’s always like this or it’s the time of year) and because of that the clothes didn’t dry and the hot baths blurred the windows and the floor for several hours.

FACILITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT

The pool area is super beautiful, with infinity pools, wet bar and chairs always available. Negative point: do not have a special pool for children.
The beach, well, beautiful to live, super fine and white sand, sea with waves, but quiet for Alice to enjoy. There’s some coffee palms to give a shade since there’s no sunguards in the area.
In the most, the bars, lobby, corridors were always kept clean and in order.
Every night there were shows on a central stage, local bands, singers, karaoke, dance shows, games and more. We watched some and it was very interesting (the girls didn’t even blink).

Children

There is a club with supervisors for children from 4 to 12 years. Alice participated one of the days and liked it a lot. We also watched shows and activities at night, which the girls loved.
The restaurants and buffet area always had little seats and we felt very comfortable with them together (although we hardly stopped a minute because of them, but it’s part).

Service

The vast majority of waiters and attendants were always very attentive. Some of them “adopted” us and when they saw us, even from afar, we already called each other and came to meet us by name.
Theoretically the cap was already included in the price, but we always added to help the staff there.

EXTRA TOURS

Well, we chose this time to stay only in the hotel and enjoy the things we could do there and of course, enjoy the meeting with the family.
We could have done several extra activities like meeting Chichen Itzá, Isla das Mujeres, Ruins in Tulum, cenotes, swimming with dolphins, coral diving, catamaran tours and more, which we’ll leave for a next time, when the daughter-in-the-wall is more Old… Hehe

Well, I guess that was it (let me know if I forgot something important). Let the photos hurt the eyes (notice that there is no color editing in the photos – the color is beautiful anyway!).
