2 days in Florence
Florence is the capital of Tuscany and began as a medieval city many years before Christ. The city is known as the birthplace of the Renaissance.
We stayed at the hotel Poeta Dante (near the Basilica of Santa Croce). Since the city is flat and the main attractions are all close to each other, we walked everywhere. The car ended up staying in a public garage nearby the whole time.
We loved the visit to Palazzo Vecchio, full of its mysteries and secret passages. Here are some of the highlights of our stay in Florence.
Basilica of Santa Croce
The Basilica di Santa Croce (Basilica of the Holy Cross) is situated on the Piazza di Santa Croce. It is the burial place of some of the most illustrious Italians, such as Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, the poet Foscolo, the philosopher Gentile and the composer Rossini, thus it is known also as the Temple of the Italian Glories.
