New York City with family | Part I

    June 13, 2016 /

The two looks are beautiful, but I prefer those sitting… Who followed my instagram a few weeks ago, we spent almost 1 week in New York, in the company of Diego's sister, her husband and our goddaughter / nephew beautiful. New York City is that thing, as much as you go there multiple times over the years, there are always things to do, explore and revisit. Spring leaves the city super beautiful (and super full – say in passing). See our tours there in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012. We rented a car and drove, the four of us, from Ottawa to Secaucus, where our hotel was. By the way,…

    Tulip Festival | Ottawa 2016

    June 8, 2016 /

This year I couldn't help but check out the Tulip Festival in Ottawa (or Canadian Tulip Festival) as spring was being mild, with ideal temperatures for these flowers. Yes, I know, it's in my city, but this time of year is usually full of activities and in the two weeks that the festival takes place, there is not always time to go to one of the parks and admire with time. Because this year, I promised that I would and although I stayed super for the last minute (the next day, we were going to travel), I ended up quickly passing through one of the festival's locations, on the banks…

Architecture job market for immigrants in Canada

    May 15, 2016 /

Immigrating by itself is already a big step in anyone’s life, but starting to work in a new country is not only necessary, as a stage full of doubts and uncertainties. There are many questions I get about how my area of expertise works, architecture. For those who do not know, I am an architect and urbanplanner in Brazil and I arrived here as a permanent resident, but without a job and without knowing much of my area. I knew yes that I would not call myself an architect around here, but it was not very clear to me where I would fit into the market. I will add that…

Seville – Spain | Family travel

    April 22, 2016 /

Our last stop on the old continent was in Seville and despite being at the end of the trip and we were already a little tired, the city ended up closing our first visit to Spain with a golden key. You know the first thing that crossed my mind while walking down some alleyways in town? What a romantic city, a good option to spend your honeymoon. Only then I went to read that yes, Seville is considered one of the most romantic cities in Spain. We took the early train in Valencia and arrived in about 4 hours later in Seville, the city of flamenco. The trip is quiet,…

IKEA Guide for Immigrants | the room

    April 13, 2016 /

It's time for the room, a super popular environment in every house, isn't it? They say that the kitchen is the heart of every home, but I know a lot of people who use direct tele-delivery and use the room as a work environment, meals, receive friends and etc, so I think a super important environment.   In our first apartment, which was an egg by the standards here, we combined dining room, office and living room itself, in the same environment. It was not an architectural strategy necessarily, it was really necessary, because there were no other spaces available in our 53 m².   I selected some super…

Canadian Museum of History | the most visited in Canada

    April 1, 2016 /

During the March Break, which is that week of school holidays for the children and already Alice was at home and in great need of activities, we visited the Canadian Museum of History, just across the Ottawa River in Gatineau. It is considered canada's most visited museum, with its 25,000 square meters of exhibitions and an exclusive online collection. The museum is one of the great sights of the region and should certainly be included in a visit to the capital, being also easy to reach, both on foot and by car / public transport. The only thing I didn't realize was the amount of people who had the same…
