    Ottawa Winterlude – 2016 version

The Ottawa winter festival, Winterlude took place from January 29 to February 15 this year and about 2 weekends ago, we took a hop at one of the venues of the event, across the river in Gatineau. We chose Jacques Cartier Park for the tour, because it is the one that has the most activities for children and that weekend the skating on the Rideau Canal was closed, because of the high temperatures (for this time of year) that week, so we did not go to the center of Ottawa see the sculptures on occasion. Even though we wanted to do all the activities there at the festival, Diana no…

    Family in Mont-Tremblant – Quebéc

Mont-Tremblant ski village (no snow yet, but very charming) Last weekend we were in Mont-Tremblant, Québec, celebrating our first decade of marriage. If you were to ask us what we would do at these special weddings, we would say something much more elaborate and planned, but with the rush of everyday life + diego’s work issues, we could not enjoy something more extended. It was last minute, but it was pretty cool! Thus, we decided to take a jump in the neighboring province, in the charming ski village, Mont-Tremblant, in the Laurentian Mountains and it was cozy and relaxing (as far as you can relax with 2 children on lap…

    Thanksgiving Tour: Parc Omega

We’ve been wanting to visit Parc Omega for a long time, about an hour from Ottawa. The park is in the Montebello – Quebec region and is an area famous for its large Fairmont Le Château Montebello (we passed there in 2010). We decided to go this Thanksgiving weekend, taking advantage that the temperatures are still mild and the days are still not so short.   To start the tour, we had lunch at a local restaurant in Montebello with excellent reviews, Délice Champêtre. There we tasted a handmade hamburger with local Quebec cheese, the traditional poutine and a sandwich with smoked pork, all approved! Québécois Poutine Parc Omega offers…

Bonnechere Caves | Tourism close to Ottawa

    Bonnechere Caves

Another Saturday arrived, a beautiful day dawned and I thought: what can we do today? That besides tidying up the house, dealing with the DIY mini projects that are always going on and so on.I remembered that it was on my list to visit the Bonnechere Caves, 123km west of Ottawa, in Eganville – Ontario. I researched the schedules, called in some friends at the last minute and right after lunch we headed there. Once you get there, you see right away that the infrastructure is very simple and rustic, no big ads, sidewalks or buildings. Simple washrooms, ticket office/souvernirs/water and a parking lot are the things you will find…

Getting to know Newfoundland – Part II

*Thank you for the kind comments!!! I'll be back later this week with details of our newly revealed little secret. 🙂 Following our tours of beautiful St. John's (Part I here). The next day, our plan was to take the boat trip, the peak point of the trip. Due to some recommendations, we decided to leave a small town about 40 minutes from downtown St. John's, called the Bay Bulls. We took the 11:00 a.m. tour with O'Briens, properly married, because the temperature should be about 9 degrees at the exit and about 5ºC on the high seas. We would have the chance to see whales, birds and icebergs, but…

Getting to know Newfoundland – Part I

Another short trip came up and this time we decided to take the opportunity to know another Canadian province: Newfoundland and Labrador.  The province is further east in Canada and indeed all of North America. St. John’s, our destination, is the provincial capital with about 200,000 inhabitants and lies in the Newfoundland area, which is an island. The other part of the province, Labrador is gigantic and continental. Red dot there is St. John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador We had about 4 days there and it was more than enough to see the attractions in the city and still drive a little more to see beautiful landscapes along the coast…
