From Ottawa to Mississauga by car

    December 4, 2014 /

A few weeks ago, when I was still free to travel, we went to visit our friends Carol and Luciano, in Mississauga, in the Toronto metropolitan area (GTA).  It's always nice to visit them, but again, it had to be something fast, going on Friday and back on Sunday.  Despite the 475km door-to-door, the route from Ottawa (Kanata in our case) to GTA (Mississauga) is quiet and hassle-free. The most obvious path between the two cities is by highways 417 – 416 – 401 and 403, respectively, which can be done in approximately 4h30min, since all stretches are duplicated (or tripled / quadrupled in some areas) and it is all…

Home renovation – Laundry room inspiration

    November 11, 2014 /

Although I don't always post here (lack of time, mainly), we're always doing or planning something to make our house more like a home. Flooring, some small transformations and so on, as you've seen here on the blog. Our basement is something that we never discussed here and even not that much in our renovation plans, mainly because we have so many other more important spaces on the main and second floor to possibly be focusing on. Our current basement is partially finish, with surrounding walls sort of done and carpet installed, but no partitions or defined rooms, no ceiling etc. In our basement is where the laundry appliances are…

San Francisco – California – Part II

    November 6, 2014 /

As you saw in part I of the San Francisco series, we managed to stroll through several sights of the city on Sunday. The city is relatively small and selecting the places well, you can have a good walk. We also managed to go to outlets and spent almost all day there on Monday (strategy not to spend too much – take little luggage with little space for extra things lol). I also commented in the previous post that we had some negative things on this trip and in addition to the accommodations episode (described in the previous post), we had another nasty little incident. Our rental car was robbed!…

    San Francisco – California | Part I

    October 30, 2014 /

Oh California! This was our first time on the American West Coast (well, Diego had been there for a day…) and in the most populous state of the States… San Francisco was our destination this time and as Diego’s parents, Ari and Lourdes, would be visiting us here in Canada for that day, we arranged a family trip this time. The day after our arrival, Sunday, we were able to have the whole family together and that’s when we tried to gather the largest number of important outings (since the rest of the days we wouldn’t have Diego to accompany us due to a conference). Needless to say, the city…

    San Antonio – Texas

    October 19, 2014 /

As I said in the previous post about Texas, we set up a quick last minute visit to San Antonio, about 1h 20 minutes from Austin. We usually studied the cities we were going to visit, but as San Antonio was decided at the time, we were kind of in the dark about what we were going to visit and where we would walk. Arriving in downtown San Antonio, we informed ourselves of a boat ride through the River Walk Canal which was a super good surprise! Very friendly, you can both walk along the canal and make the guided boat trip! The River Walk is a canal one level…
